Makenna’s 13 yr old volleyball team won the Utah/Idaho region tournament in March. This win gave them an invitation to compete in a national competition in Dallas. We were so excited about this opportunity. My sister Laura went with me. My sister Jene’ recently moved to Dallas with her family, so it was really fun to hang out with them and do a little catching up. ….Oh…back to volleyball. Eight girls attended, so they had 4 girls in each room. Of course they had a blast and probably stayed up past the coach’s ‘lights out’ instructions. The first day they lost three matches. It was very discouraging. Just being at nationals was intimidating and they were certainly up against teams that were better skilled. Even though we thought they did well…they had some mental blocks that didn’t allow them to perform 100%. They started competing well at the end of the trip. The team had to walk away from a playoff game to catch their flight back home. It was touching to see the team spirit and watch them run out of the building. I had an awesome time supporting Makenna and enjoying a get-away with my sisters!
