The Dog Blog

This is the blog I have half heartedly been looking forward to writing about. I think subconsciously I’ve been waiting to write so I could share all of the ‘wonderful’ doggy stories. I think we are almost there. Our puppies, Rosco-male and Remi-female, were born Jan 2nd. Makenna was getting ONE for Christmas. She had been working on Mark to convince him that she needed a dog for nearly the past 5 years. Makenna and I decided that it was time. I decided to get TWO dogs because 1) there were only two in the litter 2)Makenna wanted a dark colored girl…but the darker dog was a boy and 3) in my impulsiveness, I suspected that two dogs would reduce the guilt factor when I needed to leave the house for 4-5 hours. It’s been a long almost two months. We got them the first Sat in March. Mark was ‘all on board’ until they pooped in his office. A few weeks into March, he was ready to sell them or even give them away. I think he misunderstood that the potty training would take several months, not several days! Despite our difficult times, I can see the good these dogs have brought to us.
MARK & PAULETTE: We talk in the morning when I get up early with them (I’m not an early morning person). Communication is our biggest downfall so it’s a win-win in that regard. Mark has had a mild change of heart and is warming up to the puppies. We’ve heard him swear more in the past two months than in the past ten year. Yes…Sorry to have to share that, but like I said, good things are coming out of it all.
MAKENNA: She’s learning the huge responsibility of taking care of Rosco and Remi. She’s really only around a few hours a day during the week, but on the weekend we’re always reminding her about what she needs to do for them. She does admit that having a dog is overrated…but she doesn’t regret it.
CADEN: Always willing to help out. He fills in where someone is falling short.
JAYSON: Nearly once a week, he suggests that we go back to Idaho and get the mom and dad so they can be a family. I like to think he gets his compassionate side from me. I just tell him how that would send daddy over the edge and he understands. Jayson always tries to make sure the dogs are comfortable.
SADIE: She is my biggest helper. She can take one under each arm and give them a potty break. The dogs have mixed emotions about their fondness for her. They love/hate her. She mauls them…but also gives out treats way too often.
So…end of story for now… I took them to Cade’s baseball game last night and it was, well, kind of fun. I’m just really stressed about traveling. We’ll need to find a doggy daycare!
